Touring in Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has Australia's capital and largest inland city, Canberra. The ACT has a population of around 300 000. It is approximately a three hour drive or a 45-minute flight south-west from Sydney. Canberra is a meticulously planned city with parklands, restaurants, beautiful bushland and leafy suburbs around Lake Burley-Griffin. Its public buildings are known for innovative architecture. Other towns include Williamsdale, Naas, Uriarra, Tharwa and Hall. It is a great place to go caravanning or camping, in a Caravan, Campervan, Motorhome or Winnebago.

The ACT has agricultural land and a national park, Namadgi National Park,
which is mostly mountains covered with forest. Tidbinbilla to the south-west of Canberra has the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex.

The Naas and Murrumbidgee Rivers flow through the area. Animals and plants found in the ACT are generally similar to others found in the rest of South Eastern Australia.

The Australian Capital Territory experiences four definite seasons,
due to its elevation of 650m and distance from the coast. Hot, dry summers, and cold winters fog and frosts. Higher mountains in the South-East are snow-covered for at least part of the winter. Thunderstorms often happen between October and March, and an annual rainfall of around 625 mm is highest in spring and summer and lowest in winter. Temperatures have ranged from -13.2 °C to 46+ °C

Canberra is only 1.5 hrs drive from the Snowy Mountains, where many outdoor activities including hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, snow skiing, snow boarding etc are popular.
