New South Wales (NSW) is the most populous state of Australia. It has approximately 6.9 million people, around 63% of whom are to be found in Sydney, the Capital. Other major cities are Newcastle and Wollongong. Other cities and towns of note are Albury, Armidale, Bathurst, Broken Hill, Coffs Harbour , Dubbo, Gosford, Goulburn, Griffith, Inverell, Leeton, Lismore, Nowra, Orange, Port Macquarie, Tamworth, Queanbeyan, and Wagga Wagga. The Australian Capital Territory (ACT), and the Jervis Bay Territory are two Federal regions inside New South Wales. It is a great place to go caravanning or camping, in a Caravan, Campervan, Motorhome or Winnebago.

New South Wales has 4 main geographical areas:
A coastal strip including the area south of Sydney such as the Illawarra , the Shoalhaven near Nowra, Newcastle, the Central Coast and the North Coast. The coast borders the Tasman Sea.
The mountainous Great Dividing Range and surrounding high country. Mount Kosciuszko, 2,229m is the tallest mountain. The Central Tablelands and New England region and Southern Highlands are included in this region.
Agricultural plains make up a large part of the state's, with a low population. This includes the Riverina area and Wagga Wagga.
Arid plains with a few small settlements in the far north-west of the state.

The temperature has varied from -23.0°C at Charlotte Pass (Great Dividing Range) to 50.0°C at Wilcannia in the far West.

Coal and related products are the NSW's biggest export. Industries. Steel and shipbuilding are diminished in importance and while agriculture remains important its income is diminishing. Information technology and financial services mostly in Sydney, are important, so many companies having their Australian headquarters in the Sydney CBD. The Australian headquarters of many information technology firms can be found in the Macquarie Park area. Tourism, especially in Sydney, the North Coast and other major centres, is a major part of the New South Wales economy.
