The Northern Territory (NT) is a federal territory of Australia, with capital city Darwin and other large towns Alice Springs and Katherine. There are many very small settlements scattered across the Territory, which has a sparse population - Genuine "Outback Austalia". The population of the Northern Territory is only around 210,000, only 1% of the population of Australia. Over 50% of that small population is in the large centres, with the rest scattered in smaller settlements. Indigenous Australians are around 30 per cent of the population, owning around 50% of the land.

The Northern Territory's economy is boosted by mining operations such as Gove Peninsula (Bauxite), Groote Eylandt (Manganese), Ranger (Uranium) with other mines in development.
